Position Summary
The TK–12 Principal serves as the instructional leader and chief administrator of the district's schools, providing leadership for all grade levels from Transitional Kindergarten through Grade 12. The principal is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, positive, and academically rigorous learning environment while fostering collaboration among students, staff, families, and the community. In a small school district, the principal works closely with the superintendent and assumes a broad range of leadership responsibilities, balancing instructional leadership with daily operational management.
Reports To: Superintendent
Supervises: Certified staff, classified staff, advisors, and other assigned personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide instructional leadership that promotes high levels of student achievement and continuous school improvement.
- Supervise, support, and evaluate certificated and classified staff while fostering professional growth.
- Create and maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Oversee curriculum implementation, assessment, intervention programs, and compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Manage daily school operations, including scheduling, student discipline, supervision and safety.
- Administer assigned budgets and effectively manage school resources.
- Build strong partnerships with families, community organizations, and district stakeholders through effective communication and collaboration.
- Ensure compliance with district policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Support the recruitment, hiring, and retention of highly qualified staff.
- Analyze student achievement and operational data to guide decision-making and improve school performance.
- Attend School Board meetings as required
- Supervise extracurricular programs and athletic activities as requested.
- Serve as the district administrator in the superintendent's absence when assigned.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent.
Requirements
Desired Qualifications
- Valid Washington State Principal Certificate (required)
- Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or related field
- Successful teaching experience
- Successful administrative experience
- Experience working across elementary and secondary grade levels
- Experience in a rural or small school district
- Certification in Right Response Protocols
